Year 2 have been learning about the history of a  traditional celebration in England – Afternoon Tea.

Afternoon Tea first began in 1840 when a member of the Royal Family needed to eat a sandwich at 4 o’clock because she was hungry. This has continued in the royal family with Queen Elizabeth II having a sandwich and cup of tea each day at 4pm each day.

Today however many people enjoy afternoon tea as a celebration and treat. Traditionally a range of sandwiches and cakes are eaten. Year 2 enjoyed making their own cucumber sandwiches which are typical in Afternoon Tea.
